Southwest monsoon is just about to hit the country. This is the right time to remind us about rainwater harvesting (RWH). About 75% of the country’s rainfall comes from this.
As part of an awareness campaign, the International Centre for Clean Water is arranging a week-long lecture series on this topic by acclaimed leaders in the area.
It is going to start on June 1, 2020, and end on the World Environment Day (June 5, 2020). All lectures will start at 5:00 pm and will be for 50 minutes, followed by questions.
There is another reason to bring up this topic.
As many of the migrant workers have gone back to their native villages and governments are hard-pressed to find resources to support them, undertaking RWH using the available labour force will bring immense benefits for the nation. The Finance Minister has just announced an additional package of Rs. 40,000 crores for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to increase employment opportunities in villages. Part of these funds may be used for rural water security through RWH.
See you at 5:00 pm during the week of June 1-5, 2020. It may be better to join 10 minutes earlier.
