This workshop – whence the enigmatic tri-atomic water molecule was celebrated on March 22, 2019 – the occasion of World Water Day. This workshop was conducted jointly by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), partnering with Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) and it lead to cascading series of actions that resulted in policy changes, new projects, strengthening old collaborations and establishing new ones, and greater awareness on water.
The essence of the workshop was a take-home philosophy: the way we ‘treat’ water will be the determining force in different societies, driving economies around the world, in developed as well as developing countries, where we are facing the long arrived issue of ‘water crisis’. In the light of this crisis, the meeting was a stepping stone, where participants from central government, state government, administrative offices, UNICEF India, IITM and industries came together to know more about clean water and grey water, to find integrative solutions, and to discuss diverse approaches, with global relevance in the water ‘space’. As Jules Verne wrote, “Water is the future coal”, keeping up with the current times, Prof T Pradeep pointed out that for the sprawling populations in urbane cities “Water is the new data.”
All of which is a high vector in the water sector!
