National Water Award to Prof Pradeep
Professor Thalappil Pradeep, Institute Professor IIT Madras and Professor-in-charge, ICCW, has been conferred with National Water Award 2019 on November 12, 2020. The award is organised by the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. Pradeep has won the award in the category of best research/innovation/adaption of new technology for water conservation.
His research group has created a phenomenal impact in water science and technologies – using nano chemistry globally for the first time to purify water. Pradeep’s team has taken water-technology solutions from the lab and created various commercial products: translating knowledge and technology to wealth for social good.
Pradeep Research Group’s strenuous efforts have driven the movement towards reducing the water-woes of over 10 million people in India. The indigenous technologies from our institutions are a direction to budding researchers and entrepreneurs in the development of affordable technologies for drinking water purification. “This award is not only an encouragement to me but also a motivation for researchers to innovate in the area to help the noble cause of water,” said Pradeep in his acceptance speech.
